Meet Gabbo the Gorilla

Gabbo is the mascot of ALZHEIMER'S NEVADA.  

Gabbo is a 1200 pound gorilla who represents strength, tenacity and perseverance. Gabbo never gives up and will fight against the condition until there is a cure.

Albert Chavez serves as the Board President/Executive Director ALZHEIMER'S NEVADA and is the Vice President of Social Services at Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada.

Albert is a United States Army Veteran. Albert received his EdS in Educational Leadership from Liberty University; his Master of Education degree in Counseling from Grand Canyon University; his Bachelor of Science degree in Family Studies from Southwestern College and his Associates of Arts from Phoenix First Pastors College in Ministerial Studies. Albert is currently completing his Capstone Research Project for his Doctorate in counseling.

Albert has been a licensed counselor in the State of Nevada as well as a certified counselor in the State of Arizona. He is certified Clinical Liaison and Family Life Educator. Albert has spent more than 18 years working in the realm of social services and worked in the area of Alzheimer's in Nevada the past several years.

Albert is a former member of the Nevada State Task Force on Alzheimer’s where he served more than three terms. In that time he was able to participate in Legislative Task Force who then built our great states first ever plan on Alzheimer's. He also had the honor of participating in the planning and building phases of Dementia Friendly Nevada. He has spent countless hours educating people with the condition, family care partners and the community as well as advocating for additional awareness, dollars and support for those who are currently and who will be affected by the condition.

Over the years Albert has lost family and friends to this devastating disease. He is dedicated to remaining in the fight against the condition until there is a cure.


The mission of ALZHEIMER'S NEVADA is to build awareness, educate and support people living with Alzheimer's, their care partners and family members.

Our Vision is to promote awareness of the condition and provide support.

Our Purpose is simply to help. We are here to be a resource for people in need of answers, guidance and support.
